about

These are the first three tracks that were recorded for my debut album "The Endless Now – Music for Stagnation" in January 2015. Eventually as the time went by and my process sharpened, I decided to abandon these tracks, because they were quite different compared to the direction that my music was taking me at the time. I also experienced them as being a bit clumsy and naive. But when I listened to these tracks almost four years later, I started to enjoy them as sympathetic building blocks of my constantly evolving composing process.

The tracks in this EP are sharing some qualities that makes them a whole. Every track is based on a rhythmic loop built around natural harmonics. The overall mood is optimistic and hopeful. "Twilight Sky" was the very first step towards my ambient experiments as it was composed in March 2014 while I was planning my graduation concert after my finger was cut couple of months before. My first intrusion with a looper (Boss RC-20XL). "Clear Sky" was composed right after I had purchased a Strymon Big Sky reverb and TC Electronics Ditto X2 looper. It was intended to open "The Endless Now...", but I had difficulties to decide whether I should open the album with "Twilight Sky" instead... "Foggy Sky" is actually the loop from "Clear Sky" in half speed and it was inspired by a large cargo ship passing by in a dense fog.

My brother Mikko has taken some wonderful photos of different skies and he was kind enough to let me use them with the music. Thanks!

I hope you find these three tracks enjoyable. For me they represent the beginning of a wonderful journey that I'm still traveling...

about

Juha-Matti Rautiainen Soundscapes Finland

For many years I've been working as a professional musician in various bands and genres. Few years ago I cut the tip of my right index finger in an accident and I had an idea of composing ambient that could also be performed live in front of the audience, using only bass guitar. My music is minimalistic, organic and it focuses on textures and moods mixed with open impressionistic harmonies. ... more
